The Troubleshooting Process for Town Websites

How many times have you sat on hold while a technician on the other end of the phone tried to walk you through a troubleshooting process?

The process can be time-consuming and frustrating, not to mention –all too often it’s effective. Since every problem is unique, the troubleshooting process should also be unique. Unfortunately though, for many issues, standard over-the-phone diagnosis and repair is extremely difficult and frustrating.

When it comes to troubleshooting, it is often easier if you are able to connect remotely instead of explaining everything over the phone. Connecting remotely can be done with a number of different programs –we use –an easy-to-use program that allows a technician to remotely view your computer screen –with your permission of course. This allows the troubleshooter to diagnose problems, and recommend changes as necessary –no matter where they’re located!

What is is an easy-to-use tool that enables a remote repair technician, or anyone else that you choose, to see your screen. It works great for troubleshooting, since it allows a remote repair tech to see your screen, enabling them to work through the process without a lot of complicated back and forth. At Town Web, we use because it takes the trouble out of troubleshooting and enables us to diagnose problems faster, and get our client back up and running again, sooner. We also use when we do one-on-one training for new site launches for our municipal customers.

How Does It Work?

Using is simple. With just a few clicks, you’ll be ready to get started, and well on your way to being trouble free once again.

  • Start: To get started, simply go to and start a meeting. You will most likely be met with the security pop-up from Windows which will require you to allow access before you can get on your way. Click “run” if you get this pop-up
  • Allow Access: Once everything has been downloaded and installed, you will be given a 9-digit code. We will then call you so you can give us the number, which in turn will allow us to see your computer screen and enable us to help troubleshoot your problem.
  • End Session: Once the session has ended, everything will automatically be uninstalled and no one will be able to access your computer screen unless you start a new session with a new 9-digit number.

Is It Safe?

The one thing that most people are, understandably, concerned about when it comes to sharing or giving access to their computer is safety.

The great thing about, is that it allows you to remain in control the entire time. While it is not recommended to share highly confidential information over, such as bank account details, credit card numbers, etc. it is safe enough to use for troubleshooting and diagnosing your website.

In short, is a safe and effective way to make troubleshooting as simple as possible. It’s also ideal for initiation sessions, and is an excellent tool that allows us to help familiarize our clients with their new websites.
